Colton Calling to Remove Education Chancellor For “implementing a divisive social policy”

Assemblyman William Colton (D – Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Dyker Heights) is cosigning the letter with Council Member Robert F. Holden and others calling on Mayor De Blasio to remove NYC DOE Chancellor Carranza.

“I am greatly distressed that the divisive tone of the chancellor is dividing our school system and pitting one group against another. I fear his words branding some groups as “privileged” and advocating for selection for admission of specialized high school to be by such factors as race and geographic locations of schools, rather than by merit will distract from the real function of the NYC DOE Chancellor to improve the education of all children,” Assemblyman Colton said.

“The comments of NYC DOE Chancellor Carranza seems more interested in implementing a divisive social policy rather than in improving education, and that is not what we need. I thank Councilman Holden for reaching out to me to address this issue. I believe that NYC DOE needs a Chancellor who will bring us all together not to divide us and enforce a better education in our schools for all of our kids, with no child should be left behind. Education must be a number one priority; education is the future in today’s society for our children.  Our children are our future,” added Assemblyman Colton

Councilman Holden stated in his letter “I’m writing to express my concern over the recent lawsuit filed by three Department of Education employees against the city, citing Chancellor Richard Carranza and alleging that he made employment decisions based on race, not on merit. Since he came to New York City in April 2018, Mr. Carranza has been rightfully focused on creating a more equitable school system, but his comments and actions have seemingly made the system even more divided.

  1. yeah colton has to stand up for the asian invasion of his area.he is a piece of garbage.he blew me off once when i confronted him to talk.

  2. When the Department of Education starts forcing teachers to agree that getting the right answers, being on time, respecting facts, rewarding hard work, etc. are all evidence of “White Supremacism,” you know the guy running it is a corrupt, racist, hateful little hypocrite. Mr. Colton is absolutely right in calling Carranza for what he is.

  3. You are on the money Mr. Colton. Your
    common sense, caring, and the
Courage to speak out, puts you on
the right side of history. May
you be blessed with the strength
to carry on your good work.

I applaud your courage to take a
stand and to attack the well
    but misguided powers.
