Malliotakis Condemns The Decision To Impeach The President

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R – parts of Staten Island and southern Brooklyn), who is running for Congress against Max Rose, came out against the (world’s least surprising) decision by Congresspersons Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff to impeach President Donald Trump.

“They have no proof or evidence that President Trump has done anything wrong. That’s why Adam Schiff is having a staffer present the committee’s report instead of doing it himself! They’re so laser-focused on impeachment that they’re neglecting the real work that the voters sent them to Congress to do like pass UMSCA, secure our border, pass an infrastructure investment package, and fight the opioid crisis. The voters won’t forget their betrayal.”

Indeed she may be right – every major polling company showed a very significant drop in support for impeachment among independents between the first day of the hearings and the last. Initially after Ukraine-gate was first presented in the media for a couple of days, a higher percentage of independents supported impeachment than opposed it, but once public hearings began, support for it among independent and moderate voters collapsed (no major poll disagrees with this statement).

Nevertheless, because Progressives passionately support the early removal of the President, Democratic Congressman Max Rose may feel that he has no choice but to vote to impeach, even if it is likely to backfire against him during his 2020 re-election campaign.
