Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and the Shorefront Coalition Distribute 1,500 Meals in Southern Brooklyn

Yesterday, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams joined local restaurant workers to help prepare more than 1,500 meals for distribution to first responders throughout Brooklyn. The event was part of the ‘Feed First Responders’ Initiative, launched in partnership with the Shorefront Coalition and the Pakistani American Youth Society (PAYS), along with other community-based organizations, as New York City grapples with the spread of COVID-19.

Fifteen hundred meals were prepared by local restaurants including: OPera Café and Lounge, Memo Shish Kebab, Soup N Burger, Anatolian Gyro, Yiasou/Next Door, Taci’s Beyti, Lahori Chilli Restaurant, and Shandar Sweets and Restaurant. Throughout the day, Borough President Adams and volunteers from Shorefront Coalition and PAYS distributed meals to first responders New York Community Hospital; the New York City Police Department (NYPD)’s 60th, 61st, and 70th Precincts, MTA Flatbush Bus Depot, and NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island.

“It is so heartwarming to see food service establishments and local organizations come together during this difficult time around the common goal of feeding our first responders who are on the front lines of this public health crisis. In times of adversity, Brooklynites look after one another and show a shared spirit of giving and charity. I thank PAYS and the Shorefront Coalition, along with all the restaurants who participated, for this powerful demonstration of solidarity,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

“It was special to witness the community come together to support restaurants and deliver food to our heroic health care professionals and first responders during difficult times. We hope to expand this initiative across the city and are calling on others to step up and show their support,” said Steven Sapersteinco-founder of the Shorefront Coalition.

“PAYS and the Shorefront Coalition are very proud to be part of the coalition of community-based organizations that came together to support small businesses while feeding our first responders. We appreciate the leadership of Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams in supporting this initiative and the restaurants we bought the food from who are only surviving from take-outs and delivery orders like this one,” said Kashif Hussain, co-founder of PAYS.
