Virtual Job Fair for Southern Brooklyn Continues

After 80 people logged on seeking jobs from employers in southern Brooklyn who were responding with instant phone calls, community advocate Steven Patzer decided to keep the job fair website open for the weekend.

The March 26th job fair was originally scheduled to be in person. “During the pandemic, residents of southern Brooklyn are greatly impacted economically,” says Patzer. “I couldn’t image deepening the impact by cancelling a job fair featuring a dozen employers.”

Residents of Gravesend, Coney Island, and Bensonhurst scroll through job listings from employers on southernbrookylnworks.com during the scheduled job fair times of 6p to 8p. If interested in speaking with a particular employer, they submitted their name, email, and phone number.  The site also features a resume builder and an optional resume can be attached to the contact form.

Residents can still contact employers through the site this weekend, but response times may take a bit longer.

“As a community, we need to work together to come up with solutions for continuing life until the pandemic subsides,” says Patzer. “I’m fortunate enough to have web design skills and a team that could put the new event together in a matter of days.”

The next virtual job fair is scheduled for April 9, 2020.
